FATEHABAD: High drama was witnessed during the last rites of
Home Guard jawan Gursevak, who had died of injuries during stone pelting at a "Brajmandal Yatra" in Nuh, as villagers and relatives staged a protest over the body not being wrapped in a tricolour. Later, top officials visited the spot and assured the villagers that corrective steps will be taken, after which a tricolour was placed over the body, and a ceremonial salute was also given.
However, the entire episode delayed the cremation by over an hour.
"When villagers did not see the tricolour on the body, they got angry. They said whenever there is law and order issue, the jawans are always in the frontline, and now when they are dead, they are denied the respect they deserve. At the same time, other Home Guard jawans who came to see off their comrade also spoke up in support of the villagers, and declared that until there is respect, the last rites will not be performed," said a source.
